Quantum of Busy Part 1

Today is Friday the 23rd and for the past week or so, there has been a flurry of activity to report upon. We're finally done with Arequipa after 6 weeks at the orphanage. Before we left, we walked around the historic district and got these pictures.

We bought some traditional Arequipan ice cream, queso helado - yes cheese ice cream - and it was great. Pretty similar with a slightly different texture. Mmmm... pretty similar with a slightly different texture.
Gillian made this face for most of the photos that day. I in turn made a laughing face.
I didn't have time to write about the go-carting when I posted that video (which I am so proud of!) because we had to leave at 3 am for Colca Canyon, but man was it fun! Gillian was really worn out but most of the other volunteers all went and we had a great time. It was a bar called Kart O Mania that had no rules except every hour, the price of beer was to go up... and it did! Some cars we're really fast, some had no control whatsoever, and everyone crashed constantly. The next day, everyone had bruises and burns in the exact same places. I really wish we had time to go back.
On the out side, these buildings looked really nice, but sometimes you could see in and it would be all jagged metal and broken glass. Or the whole building would be falling apart except the door, which would be extravagant. Peru... Sometimes... I mean...
We didn't go to this restaraunt .
We are really going to miss Arequipa and the kids. I never got a picture of the crowded bus rides to the orphanage, but imagine a VW van filled to the brim with everyone hunched over and standing on someone else's groceries and you got it.
