On our last day at the orphanage, we took a lot of pictures of the babies. It's amazing how much they grew in just 6 weeks.
Camila is finally old enough where we can start to see her personality a little bit.
Lilly in the white runs the orphanage and Sonia in the orange is in charge of the babies. Lilly told us that she was glad we didn't drink or go out dancing because when volunteers do, it gives the kids bad dreams and they wake up screaming. (It has nothing to do with them being kids or being orphaned, no, course not.) Tattoos, we're told, can have a similar affect on the young (when visible of course).
They like their babies boiling hot here in Peru. Looks like the Tias were gone and some irresponisble camera man moved some blankets because Jorge Luis is showing a lot of skin for his age!
Valarie is so cute! She also has begun to have some of the most puzzling poops. More than a few times, Gillian had to scrub this weird, dried-oat-like substance off her back that was posing as poop.
Oh it was so great. Maria Eugenia has been on the verge of walking since we arrived. As you can imagine, in a house of concrete and iron rods, this can be dangerous. But after 5 weeks of struggle and injury, she walked for me. I saw her first steps. After 10 steps I yelled and totally scared her. She didn't walk much for the rest of the week because she was petrified of falling again, but it was very, very neat to be there for the first time.
Everytime someone leaves, there is a big dance party at the orphanage. They all know a dance/ song or 2 and it's really cute, especially when it was for us on our last day. Gillian and I got a bit teary-eyed. I've posted video of the dances before. Check the archives at your leisure.
