So after 2 more days of writing and reading and interneting, we went to a lodge up in the mountains. That took us from 12,000 feet to 14,000 feet I believe. The weather report said thunder storms everyday, so we opted for day hikes instead of trekking and camping for 3 nights. Even after 2 days in Huaraz, coming up here was still a strain on the lungs, so we just did a short one to start out.
Here's a view of the other direction from our lodge. It was run by a nice Canadian couple in their 50's. They knew the guys at the Black Sheep Inn from way back when the Black Sheep way first starting. The guy is an environmental consultant so they have moved around to different countries and we're really interesting to talk to.
Here's the glacier that we hiked to the next day.
The landscape was full of rocks yet very green. Very unique and beautiful. We took a million pictures like at the Black Sheep Inn.
The Canadian couple owns 4 dogs and 5 or 6 horses and farm their land as well. They are also involved with setting up community services like a library and try to get grants and so forth.
They had composting toilets, but theirs were inside the house. We found this to be a mixed blessing and came away preferring the outside system in which your room doesn't smell! Also, their toilets required a hose, which can be unpleasant when combating altitude issues (if you get my meaning).
Someone's house. They also make smaller tent versions of this for when they need to watch their cattle and sheep at night.
That's Huaraz way in the distance, if you can even see it.
Since local people dress so bright, you can spot them from miles away. This little purple or red dot. Since the area is so vast, it makes sense if you or a dog is looking for someone. The outfits are extravagant to, like they have been everywhere we've gone. Each area has a different style though.
I must of had bad gas or something.
