Here are some clips from our time in Peru before Arequipa. It has the dancing during lunch in Trujillo that I mentioned in an earlier blog. Also, horses and insects in Huaraz and the crazy Peruvian dog again.
In other news:
Yesterday, I took the kids to a circus. We crammed 20 kids and 5 volunteers into to Geo Metro Taxis and were off. I took the backpack with my nice fleece, the camera with pictures of the cool Monasterio De Santa Catalina, the replacement water bottle, Gillian's book, and.... Gillian's Journal containing all her writing over the last 4 months. When we arrived, the kids ran out of the car towards the park, so I ran after, sin mochila. There are 50,000 taxis here in Arequipa, so it's pretty much gone for good. Lilly, who runs the orphanage has been helping me track it down, but at this point, I think there is no more hope.
We'll get another camera somehow and get the pictures up of the kids, who are so fun. Maybe we can borrow pictures from other volunteers (like of the half-assed circus). One of the clowns singled me out and started insisting that I smile, haha. The kids loved it, (and it was free for them so that ws great) but I'm pretty sure they all just got stoned and put on make up and started being goofy. At one point, a guy was juggling swords. He kept dropping them until one actually landed on his foot. It was not a real sword, that jerk, haha.
Gillian is now almost always with the babies, which she loves, and I do a bit of everything, which I love. To save money, they have us do laundry in cold water and then iron everything to kill the germs. I'm pretty sure this makes no sense in a couple ways, but what ev. Also, while Gillian keeps making mixed CD's for her time in the baby room, the kids will not allow me to play anything besides Help! So, I've stopped using the real words and it makes it tolerable. Help, I need you Rodney, Help, I want your body, Help, you know I need some smack, He-e-el-e-elp.
They finally got a vacuum for the house, which they clearly haven't had for years, and I went to work on our room. After 40 minutes maybe, I'd done an ok job on 12 square feet and suddenly flames began shooting out the back. I did the rest with my hands, which did a better job anyways, and now we are without vacuum cleaner once again.
Everybody here watches Friends, everyday. We have been watching Weeds instead. We've also watched The Tudors and Deadwood recently and highly recommend those too. Oh ya, and the fun coordinator took a big smelly one in our bathroom the other day. I just find that so funny!
And now we're off to buy a new journal. Again, If you are on facebook, go to agillianandjackadventure.blogspot.com to watch the video. See ya'll in a month and a half. We're going to miss everyone on Christmas. Love, Jack
